Kogi Youths Call Inclusions In Goverance

Youths in Kogi State have called for robust and constant engagement with political leaders so as to stem the tide of youth restiveness across the country.

They made their position known in Lokoja during a stakeholders meeting organised by the Minister of State, FCT, Hajiya Ramatu Tijani Aliyu.

Kogi State Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Alfred Alonge appealed to Government to immediately address challenges facing the youth in Nigeria including the high rate of unemployment, poor implementation of various social investment and agricultural programmes.

President, National Association of Kogi State Students, NAKOSS, Comrade Steven Shuaibu and Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Students, NANS, Kogi State, Otaru Abdulkareem decried the continued stay at home by university students and what they called “the inaccessibility of people to their political representatives” as a major challenges hindering development.

Ohinoyi of Ebiraland and Acting President, Kogi State council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ado Ibrahim reiterated the pivotal role of the traditional institution to peace building.

While calling on youths to be more patient with constituted authority, the Ohinoyi stated that it was now time to genuinely revisit the constitution of the country to address issues not captured.

On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Ayuba Ede restated the commitment of the Nigeria Police in protecting lives and property of citizens.

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Kogi State Council, Comrade Adeiza Mommoh Jimoh sought for the strengthening of Government owned media organizations in the state to be able to combat the menace of misinformation and fake news usually peddled in the Social media.

According to him, members of the union would continue to ensure professionalism in their reportage.

Addressing the gathering, Minister of State, FCT, Hajiya Ramatu Tijani Aliyu advocated attitudenal change by citizens.

Hajia Ramatu emphasised the role of the family in remodeling the youth noting that the relevance of youths in development could no longer be relegated.

The Minister further disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari was already implementing major demands put forward by youths during the #EndSARS protest across the country.
