Kwara state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has pardoned 101 inmates at the Ilorin Correctional centers .
The pardon granted the prisoners was in line with the directive of the federal government aimed at curtailing the spread of Coronavirus across the country.
The Controller of Correctional Service in Kwara state , Adebisi Francis,said the 83 inmates who benefited from the government’s gesture were released out rightly.
According to him, sentences of two inmates were also reduced from 10 years to eight years while the conviction of 16 condemned inmates was commuted to life imprisonment.
Mr Francis explained that the beneficiaries are those that had served 75 percent of their jail terms, those with challenges as well as aged inmates.
In a remake the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Salman Jawondo said that the gesture is in line with the Federal Government directives for the decongestion of correctional centres across the country as part of efforts towards curtailing the spread of coronavirus.
