Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commissioned 15 new tractors to enhance mechanized farming and boost food production in the state.
At a program organised to launch the new tractors, Governor AbdulRazaq said the the mechanisation component would aid the recently launched state agricultural transformation plan.
The governor explained that purchase of new tractors and implements is another milestone because his administration did not inherit any functional tractor from his predecessor.
Also speaking at the event, Speaker of the Kwara State Assembly, Engineer Yakubu Salihu, noted the administration has committed so much resources to support smallholder farmers since its inception in 2019.
Permanent Secretary of the Kwara State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Hajia Maryam Nurudeen explained that the administration procured the cost-efficient and adaptable machineries to enhance the mechanisation programme with a view to advancing commercial agriculture in the state.
Hajia Nurudeen assured Kwarans that ordinary small scale farmers would reap the benefits of mechanised farming to scale up food production in the state with huge effect on efficiency of farmers as well as the quality and quantity of their produce.
Representatives of All Farmers Association of Nigeria in Kwara State Alhaji Mahmud Bello, who commended the governor for purchasing the tractors noted that his administration’s supports have been helpful to farming activities in the state.
