Lawmakers Tackles Security Agencies Over Continued Insecurity

The House of Representative has directed the security agencies to urgently get to the root causes of rampant kidnapping across the country.

This followed a unanimous adoption of a motion under matters of urgent public importance on the cases of unresolved kidnapping.

Presenting the motion, a member from Anambra State Mr Chris Emeka, said the incidences of kidnapping has caused great havoc on families of victims, which necessitates urgent action.

The lawmaker, states that there have been reports of unresolved kidnap persons across the country. He disclosed that the Labour Party candidate in the just concluded Anambra State election, Obiora Agbasimalo who was abducted is yet to be found.

Mr Emeka, added that, 5 engineers were also kidnapped on November 3 in Ebonyi State and nothing has been heard about them till date.According to him, the kidnappings in Anambra and the South East are a pointers to the deteriorating security situation in the country.

He urged the House to mandate relevant committees to work with security agencies and report in 6 weeks.Adopting the motion, the House described it as timely and reassured commitment to the welfare and security of citizens in line with its legislative agenda.
