By Chris Nyamtu – Lafia

Nasarawa State Government has called on local government chairmen and the traditional institutions to step up efforts in sensitizing rural communities across the state to ensure full compliance with environmental laws.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources Mr Kwanta Yakubu made the call while monitoring the monthly environmental sanitation in Keffi Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Kwanta Yakubu stated that outbreaks of diseases and natural disasters, especially flooding would be averted significantly if leaders at the grassroots persistently engage the people in activities aimed at living hygienic lifestyles.

The Commissioner explained that mobile offices had been activated in major communities across the 13 local government areas of the state to ensure that people at the rural areas were adequately informed about the dangers of living in unclean environments.

Mr Kwanta Yakubu called on the local government chairmen to continue to work closely with the state government to ensure seamless enforcement of laws in protecting the environment.
