The Joint Action Committee of Non Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University, SSANU Uni-Agric Makurdi Chapter staged a peaceful protest to demand for improved welfare.

Correspondent reports that the protesters in tier numbers carried placards some of which read, “Pay JAC its twenty billion naira earned allowance now”, IPPIS is a big scam, pay our retired members their benefits and pay us minimum age allowance” among others.

Addressing his colleagues, the Interim Chairman, Joint Action Committee, Comrade Moses Igirgi stated that the protest became necessary to demand payment of the twenty-nineteen minimum wage arrears and the failure of Government to re-negotiate the two thousand and nine agreement which was due since twenty-twelve.

Comrade Igirgi noted that the inability of Government to fund State Universities as public institutions was detrimental to the general well being of the people.

He maintained that the irreconcilable inconsistencies occasioned by the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System, IPPIS was also an issue that needed to be addressed urgently to prevent any further action by the union.

The JAC Interim Chairman explained that the protest was a directive from the National Body of the Union and would last for three days beginning from eight AM to four PM each day.
