Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC and partners has commenced maiden edition of the Nigeria Conference of Applied and Field Epidemiology (NiCAFE), in Abuja.
Speaking at a pre conference workshop, the DG of NCDC Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu said they are working to strengthen Infodemics management as part of a national emergency preparedness and response framework for COVID19 and other infectious diseases.
Dr Ihekweazu stressed the need for the media to manage Infodemic, by only quoting identifiable credible sources, for timely and real time information, especially during epidemics.
Represented by Director, prevention programme and knowledge management of the NCDC, Dr Chinwe Ochu, said the Conference will x-ray COVID-19 response in the last seventeen months and chat ways to address the evolving pandemic and future outbreaks.
Also WHO Infodermic consultant, Dr Danjuma Abdulrahman, said the aim was to have an integrated Infodemics management system in the country to address emerging pandemics.
Dr Abdultrahman also urged journalist to dispel rumours, wrong information and lies about COVID-19 and vaccination.
The NiCAFE conference is an evolution of previous conferences and will focus on how Nigeria can build back better from the COVID-19 response to strengthen the country’s capacity to prevent, detect and respond to disease outbreaks.
The theme of this edition of is “Building Back Better, COVID-19 and other disease outbreaks.
