National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA has held special on-line Competition of Start-Up ideas to tackle the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
Presenting their ideas in the on-line event titled “Nigeria COVID-19 Innovation Challenge”, two of the innovators, Ahmad Bature and Aliyu Bello Aliyu said the pandemic had hidden opportunities for young innovators to tackle the spread of the pandemic especially in protecting medical personnel from the risk of contracting the virus while treating patients.
Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Ibrahim Isa Pantami said the COVID-19 pandemic has provided an opportunity for young innovators to place Nigeria on the path to digital economic development as ICT innovation was a perfect tool to ensure physical distancing and contact tracing of COVID-19 patients.
The Minister directed all agencies under the Ministry to set-up modalities for research grants for the innovative ideas to be immediately developed.
Director General of NITDA, Mr Kashifu Abdullahi said the COVID-19 crisis will be defeated as long as innovative ideas are adopted and developed to check its spread before the cure is found.
Algorism; an innovation start-up meant to provide clinical support to medical personnel and patients emerged 1st in the Nigeria COVID-19 Innovation Challenge on-line event.
About 150 participants consisting civil servants, technocrats, and the media representatives from across the globe participated in the event.
