Northern Governors are looking for possible ways to further improve agricultural productivity in the region to boost the economy.
Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Simon Lalong stated this when he visited the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The Governor said the visit was part of plans by the Forum to revive the good legacies of Sir Ahmadu Bello in the area of Agriculture and Education.
Lalong said the northern region has a comparative advantage in agriculture, and if well harnessed, it will positively impact people and improve the security situation.
The Governor stressed the need for peace and unity of the country despite its diversity.
Earlier, Vice Chancellor of the Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Kabir Bala said the university was one of the best in agricultural research and expressed confidence that its contribution can add value in the sector.
meanwhile Rector Kaduna Polytechnic has called on Northern Governors to place emphasis on Youth empowerment and skills acquisition for them to be self Reliant.
The Rector professor Idris Bugaje made the call when he received the chairman of Northern Governors forum and Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong who visited the institution.
According to Professor Bugaje, ninety five percent of out of school children are in the north hence the need to employ strategies that will keep them engaged through skills acquisition.
Governor Simon Lalong promised to present the issues raised by the Rector before the Northern Governors forum.
He stressed that training of youth to acquire skills would go a long ways in addressing the current security challenges in the north and country as a whole.
