The Nigeria police force plateau state command has dissociated itself from Sergeant Ruya Auta who allegedly shot dead Rinji Bala last year in Jos.
Counsel representing the command Napdul Tali revealed this before the Judicial Panel of Inquiry investigating complaints of police brutality and related extra judicial killings in Plateau State.
Radion Nigeria reports that when the matter came up counsel to the Plateau State Command of the Police Force Napdul Tali told the panel that he was directed to withdraw appearance on the petition as the accused officer who allegedly killed late Rinji Bala at the time was not under the Plateau State Police Command but deployed to the Special Task Force Plateau State Command.
This development did not go well with Counsel to the petitioner Tongshishak Danjuma who argued that the accused is first a police officer before drafted to the STF and that the weapons used to commit the act was given to the accused by the police and not STF and as such the police can not withdraw from the petition.
After a series of argument the Panel led by Justice Philomena Lot advised counsel to the petitioner to do a thorough investigation to ascertain what police command the accused was deployed from to the STF and serve it a copy of the petition.
The Panel also advised the counsel to either serve the Inspector General of Police a copy of the petition or the STF to take up the matter.
The Panel there after granted application of the Counsel Napdul Tali since there was no objection and withdrew the Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Police Force from the petition.
It further adjourned the petition to the 9th of next month to enable the petitioners effect the right service.
Four other petitions were heard during the sitting of the panel at the Azi Nyako Youth Centre Jos.
