Federal Government has commenced distribution of chickens and seed materials for home gardens to women farmers in Nasarawa State under the Value Chain Development Programme as part of steps towards addressing nutrition in the state.
At the flag off ceremony in Lafia, Wife of Nasarawa State Governor, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule said she had launched a campaign for women in the state to participate actively in farming for economic empowerment.
Addressing the women during the programme tagged “Achieving Minimum Dietary Diversity for Women,” Wife of the Nasarawa State Governor, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule stated that the fight against malnutrition and hunger would be won in a short time if women were given adequate support to participate fully in farming.
Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule represented by Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development,Hajiya Hauwa Aliyu Ogah urged the beneficiaries to ensure proper management of the materials to achieve the desired yield.
Nasarawa State Coordinator, Value Chain Development, Dr. Eunice Adigidzi noted that the distribution of the chickens and home garden seeds was part of efforts towards achieving the scheme’s mandate of emphasis on improvement in livelihoods of women and youths.
Items distributed were four hens and a cock to each of the women farmers for rearing, orange,moringa, plantain and melon stems.
