Members of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, in Ondo and Lagos states have shit down the houses of assemble.
The workers in Ondo carried placards demanding for autonomy as they locked the gate to the complex.
Ondo State Chapter Chairman of PASAN, Comrade Raphael Urona said the action was in line with the directive from the National headquarters of the Association to demand for the implementation of financial autonomy for the legislative arm of government.
Lagos state chairman, Adele Adewale Taofiq, said according to the best practice, parliaments should have equitable access to resources.
As such, Parliaments by Constitutional arrangements are supposed to have enough financial muscle to carry out their legislative mandate, including exercising power over the budget, he said.
In Nasarawa state, the Clerk of the state House of Assembly, Mr Ego Maikeffi who arrived for the day’s work was chased away by the protesting workers.
The workers were displaying placards with inscriptions such as ” No Autonomy, No Work”, “Governors Respect Separation of power and the Rule of Law” Financial Autonomy is Non Negotiable” among others.
National Treasurer of the association Comrade Umar Yusuf who was deployed to the state to ensure total compliance with the strike called on the workers to be resolute and united as their demands were legitimate.
More States are expected to join in the strike, which the association said was indefinite, until demands are met.
