PDP Rejects Bye-election Result

The Peoples Democratic Party in Imo state has rejected the declaration of the All Progressives Congress, APC as winner of the Imo North Senatorial district bye-election held last Saturday.

Addressing a news conference in Owerri, the State Chairman of the Party Chief Charles Ugwu said the APC had no candidate in the said election as two candidates continued to lay claim to the party’s ticket.

He described it as a ridiculous decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission to declare an unnamed candidate of APC as winner of the senatorial election knowing that there were conflicting court orders disqualifying both candidates of the APC as at the eve of the election.

Chief Ugwu noted that the PDP would use every legitimate means to seek redress if INEC failed to declare his party the winner of the election.

The Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election Chief Emmanuel Okewulonu urged INEC to declare him winner noting that parties are never declared winners without a known candidate.

Chief Okewulonu thanked his supporters for voting him in the election and vowed to reclaim the mandate.
