Plateau State Flags Off Health Insurance Scheme

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state has flagged off enrollment into the state Social Health Insurance scheme with a warning to those saddled with implementation of the programme to be transparent, efficient and professional.

The Governor who gave the warning while also officially launching the State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, PLASCHEMA said government would not tolerate any abuse or manipulation of the process .

The Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, PLASCHEMA was established in June last year to regulate, supervise and implement the state Social Health Insurance Scheme that will provide Universal health coverage for residents.

Governor Lalong expressed hope that the commencement of the scheme would guarantee access to quality and timely healthcare services for the poor and vulnerable which has been a major challenge.

The Governor while urging citizens to enrol into the scheme, reassured of leaving legacies in all sectors including health.

Lalong urged management of the state Healthcare Agency to work closely with the National Health Insurance Scheme to learn from its successes and mistakes.

Plateau state House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Health, Listic Nanbol who represented the Speaker, Abok Ayuba gave an assurance that the house would continue to give speedy passage not only to health related bills but on others that are of benefit to citizens.

Head of Civil Service, Mr. Izam Azi described the initiative of the Health Insurance Scheme as commendable, noting that it would guarantee workers access to health care services more easier and affordable thereby enhancing there productivity.

Highlight of the event was the symbolic enrolment of Governor, Simon Lalong and his Deputy Sonny Tyoden into the scheme among other dignitaries.
