Police Brutality: PSC Directs IGP to Prosecute Indicted Officers

The Police Service Commission has directed the Inspector General of Police, IGP to discipline and prosecute police officers indicted in police brutality’s report

The Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Mr Tony Ojukwu stated this in Abuja while briefing Journalists ahead of this year’s Annual National Human Rights Awards.

Mr Ojukwu explained that the commission met with relevant Authorities to ensure the prosecution of individuals and groups involved in the violations of human rights in the country.

The Executive Secretary said progress had been made in the area of proper compensation of the victims of human rights violations.

On the importance of the human rights awards, Mr Ojukwu explained that for individuals or groups to be recognized for promotion of human rights, it would go a long way in encouraging other institutions or organizations to key into the promotion and protection of human rights in the country.
