Food vendors under the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in Nasarawa State have appealed to the Federal Government to review their monthly allowances upward to reflect the persistent hike in the cost of food items in the country.
They made the call in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area at the commencement of physical verification and data capturing of over 190 000 school children benefitting from the programme in the state.
The exercise was carried out by a team of enumerators from the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Hajiya Sadiya Farouk represented by the Team Lead Mallam Abdullahi Usman said the physical enumeration of pupils and other beneficiaries of the School Feeding Programme would create a verifiable data base for for accountability and planning with a view to adding more school children into the programme.
Food vendors under the programme Mrs Habiba Yakubu and Ms Abigail Sabo who said the programme had given them source of livelihood appealed to the federal government to increase their monthly allowances considering the prevailing high cost of living in the country.
