Security Agencies Intensify Efforts to Halt Vandalism in Nasarawa State

Security agencies in Nasarawa state have stepped up efforts to check recent upsurge in vandalism of railway tracks in some parts of the state.
Between January and May this year, over fifty suspected vandals of railway tracks have been apprehended in different locations across the state.
Some communities along railway lines in Nasarawa state have lately become notorious for the dismantling of rail tracks.
Findings by Radio Nigeria revealed that staff of the Nigerian Railway Corporation and residents are reluctant to speak out about the activities of these vandals for fear of being attacked.
This is due to alleged involvement of some prominent individuals suspected to be behind the illegal business.
In the last five months,three Police men,a Chinese national and the Special Adviser to the state Governor on Infrastructure were among suspects arrested in connection with vandalism of railway tracks in the state.
A senior staff with the Nigeria Railway Corporation in Lafia the state capital who preferred to be anonymous, mentioned Agyaragu, Gudi,B A D.and Mada station as major communities where vandals use as safe haven to perpetrate thier criminal activity.
In an interview with Radio Nigeria, the state Police public Relations officer ,Nansel Ramhal said a special anti vandalism squad had been set up to check mate activities of the vandals .
The state public relations officer of Nigeria security and civil Defence corps,Jerry Victor alleged that the vandals operate under a syndicate with buyers already on ground to purchase the materials.
Five trucks loaded with rail tracks and slaps,including one belonging to a serving member of the state House of Assembly, two buses,three welding machines,one filing machine and hundreds of railway tracks were recovered from the suspected vandals.
