Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) branch has threatened to embark on a nationwide protest over the failure by the management of FAAN to implement their Conditions of Service (CoS), agreement.
During a meeting held at the Lagos Airport, the National Secretary of NUP FAAN, Comrade Emeka Njoku disclosed that FAAN management had refused to implement the CoS as recommended by the committee set up by them on the disparity in salaries.
He said, the body had given the FAAN management up till the 4th of May, 2021 to address their grievances and if nothing concrete was done, they would kick off a nationwide protest across all airports in the country.
“If nothing is done, a nationwide protest will emerge, we are going to give directives to all our unions to carry placards, protest throughout the airports if we don’t see the implementation of that CoS. Ironically, the Federal Government awarded 33% to Federal pensioners, while we are talking about 18%”.
According to him, the committee headed by the Director of Human Resources and Administration recommended that 18% should be paid to levels 1 to 14 to bridge the disparity in the system as it was noticed during the implementation.
The NUP scribe said, the committee ended its sitting and submitted its recommendations before the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and till date they were yet to see any action taken.
He accused the management of FAAN of twisting the agreement and dragging the minister into a matter that was within the power of the management of FAAN to handle.
Treasurer of the FAAN pensioners, Comrade Ukeagbu Medinat said, they were fully prepared for the protest and members across airports in the country have been informed of their decision.
The NUP FAAN therefore called for the immediate inauguration of the board of aviation parastatals to check the excesses currently being perpetrated in the system.
