WAEC Urges Schools To Comply With COVID-19 Protocol

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has announced its readiness to conduct the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations for school candidates under strict compliance to necessary protocols aimed at checking the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The examination has been scheduled between August and September, this year.

The Head of National Office, WAEC, Nigeria, Mr. Patrick Areghan made the announcement at a news briefing in Lagos.

Mr. Areghan said WAEC Nigeria had to work round the challenges of the virus with the support of the federal ministry of education to ensure that WAEC candidates in Nigeria were not left behind in the conduct of this year’s examination which would be conducted at the specified date in all WAEC member countries.

He explained that the Council would ensure that there was social distancing in the examination halls by making sure that candidates sit two meters apart.

He however, called on school managements to ensure that they provided wash-hand buckets with running water, soaps, hand sanitizers and thermometers in their schools to maintain the necessary protocols laid down in containing the spread of the Corona virus pandemic in the schools while the examination last.

Mr. Areghan however, warned all school authorities and candidates against examination malpractices.

He stressed that the Council would not hesitate to sanction any school or candidate that engaged in any form of examination fraud.

The WAEC boss in Nigeria urged students to seize the opportunity of the one month notice given by the council before the commencement of the examination to prepare adequately for the examination.

A total of one million, five hundred and forty-nine thousand, four hundred and sixty-three candidates registered for the examination from nineteen thousand, one hundred and twenty-nine schools.
