INEC collaborates with security agencies, traditional and religious leaders to ensure a smooth Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Nasarawa State.
Dr. Shehu El-Wahab, the Nasarawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner for INEC, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring credible and continuous voter registration ahead of the upcoming general election.
Dr. El-Wahab pledged his commitment during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State, ahead of the exercise.
The Nasarawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Shahu El-Wahab of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stated that the purpose of the meeting was to encourage active involvement of stakeholders in mobilizing residents within their communities to participate in the ongoing registration exercise.

According to Dr. El-Wahab, the continuous voter registration offers residents the chance to apply for voter transfers between polling units, update their names, and request replacement voter cards, among other services.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, who cautioned political parties against premature campaigning, multiple registration, underage registration, and registration by proxy, said offenders will face the full wrath of the law.
In their paper presentations, the Heads of Departments for Electoral Operations, ICT, Voter Education, and Publicity—Sale El-Muhammed, Zukogi Muhammad Abubakar, and Hajiya Safiya Garba—stressed that to be eligible for the CVR, a person must be a citizen of Nigeria.
Representatives of political parties at the Stakeholders meeting appealed to the Electoral Umpire to put all necessary measures in place to ensure the success of the exercise.
The stakeholders’ meeting, which included an interactive session, was attended by representatives from Heads of Security Agencies, Civil Society Organizations, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, and Youth Groups.
The theme of the stakeholders’ meeting is “The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR): Roles and Expectations from Stakeholders.”
