The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau has urged committee members to be thorough and adhere strictly to budgetary provisions as they embark on their oversight functions to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
He stated that the House has resolved to undertake this constitutional role for two weeks, commencing on August 26, 2025.
The speaker gave the charge during the plenary on Monday in Lafia. He explained that the initiative aims at ensuring the strict implementation of the 2025 budget.
According to him, the exercise is not intended to “witch-hunt” anyone but to ensure that MDAs utilise funds allocated to them judiciously.
“We have passed the 2025 budget, and it is our duty to ensure that the budget passed by the House is being implemented strictly for the benefit of our people.
“I want the public to know that the oversight function is not a witch hunt exercise, as it is our duty to check the budget of MDAs as stipulated by the law.
“I am declaring that the House from August 26th will commence oversight function for two weeks to MDAs” he said.
The Speaker, Rt Hon Jatau, advised lawmakers to remain impartial and called on the management of the MDAs to cooperate fully with House committees.
He also expressed appreciation for Governor Abdullahi Sule’s efforts in developing the state, highlighting also, the positive impact of various projects executed in the State.
“The oversight function is expected to promote transparency and accountability in budget implementation, ultimately benefiting the people of Nasarawa State”, he explained.
