The Kogi State Ministry of Health has announced plans to collaborate with a private university in the state to establish a Faculty of Medical Sciences at the State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja.
The Commissioner for Health, Doctor. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, disclosed this in Lokoja during a meeting with the university’s management team led by Vice Chancellor, Professor. Alowo Akubo.

Doctor. Adeiza said the initiative was part of the state government’s drive to tackle the shortage of qualified medical personnel in health facilities, noting that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration was committed to producing homegrown doctors through state-owned institutions.
He highlighted the government’s recent achievements in securing accreditation for medical science programmes at Kogi State University, Anyigba, and the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara.
He, however, stressed the need to provide the required facilities to make the programmes fully operational.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Education, Mr. Wemi Jones, described the proposed partnership as a landmark step in strengthening the state’s education sector with support from the private sector.
He expressed optimism that the collaboration would boost the health sector by improving the availability of skilled manpower.
