Traditional leaders in Plateau State have been encouraged to promote peacebuilding through strategic media engagement and enhancing community resilience.
The Arch Bishop of Jos, Most Reverend Matthew Audu gave the charge at a consultative engagement on mediation and conflicts transformation organized by Justice Development and Peace Caritas, JDPC, held in Jos.
The Consultative forum with traditional rulers was organized by Justice Development and Peace Caritas, JDPC, in collaboration with Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria, SPRiNG towards ensuring a stable and peaceful Plateau State.
The Arch Bishop of Jos, Most Reverend Matthew Audu represented by Retired Monsignor Cletus Gotan prayed that the high powered consultative forum would address pressing security challenges and peace building gaps in communities across the state.

He noted that for over two decades, the Church has responded to humanitarian crises by providing relief materials and implementing peacebuilding initiatives in several affected communities.
In a remark, The Director General, Plateau State Peace Building Agency, Julie Sanda noted that the agency has been working closely with stakeholders to achieve its peacebuilding mandate
Adviser to the British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Mr. Graham Gass underscored the significance of dialogue and information sharing among traditional leaders in promoting peace and stability.

The Regional Programme Manager, SPRiNG, Mr. MUJIDANG SITDANG outlined the project’s components, to include peacebuilding, conflict resolution, climate management, and women’s engagement.
Participants expressed hope that the meeting would yield solutions to address the dynamics of conflicts and attacks in the region.
