The General Manager, Radio Nigeria – Harmony FM, Hajia Binta Abubakar Mora, has urged women in politics to adopt strategic media engagement as a tool for greater visibility, credibility, and influence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
Hajia Binta Mora made the call while presenting a paper titled “Media Engagement for Women Candidates in Politics” at a three-day training for female political party members held in Ilorin.
She said politics in Nigeria is still shaped by ethnicity, religion, and personality, but stressed that effective media use can help women overcome barriers and reposition themselves as credible front runners.
The General Manager noted that political communication through rallies, campaigns, and social media has become central to voter mobilization and public opinion.

She however warned against the dangers of fake news, misinformation, and hate speech.
Hajia Mora emphasized the watchdog role of the media in exposing corruption and electoral malpractice, while also promoting civic education and accountability.
She encouraged women leaders to embrace two-way communication, listening and responding to constituents to build lasting trust.
The training, themed “From Foot Soldiers to Front Runners,” brought together female politicians from across Kwara State to equip them with skills to move from grassroots mobilizers to frontline contenders.
