The Nasarawa State Police Command has foiled an attempt at child trafficking in Mararaba, following the swift intervention of its operatives which led to the arrest of a suspect and the safe rescue of three children.
A statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel to newsmen in Lafia says one Aisha Hashiru, was apprehended by members of the public at Orange Market, Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area of the state while attempting to abduct three minors and she was about to be lynched when the Divisional Police Officer of Mararaba ‘A’ Division, mobilized his patrol team to the scene, where they rescued both the suspect and the children.
The statement notes that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had sneaked into the residence of Ramatu Auwal of Orange Market and abducted her three children.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to luring the children under the pretext of buying them biscuits.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed has already directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for further investigation.
He also charged officers to intensify efforts in unraveling other reported cases of missing children and to strengthen the Command’s fight against human trafficking across the state.
