A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded on Wednesday afternoon under the Mabushi Bridge in Abuja, where a family of three—a man, his wife, and their young son—lost their lives following a violent encounter with touts, locally known as Agberos2.
According to eyewitnesses, the family was driving a Toyota Highlander after purchasing a new refrigerator from the Berger area. They were reportedly accosted by three touts who began chasing them, allegedly for flouting informal “revenue” rules. The touts forced their way into the moving vehicle and began dragging the steering wheel with the driver in a bid to extort money. In the struggle for control, the vehicle veered off course, slammed into a pillar under the bridge, and plunged into a drainage ditch. All three family members died instantly. A nearby green Abuja taxi was also hit and severely damaged.
