The organized labor in Nasarawa State announced on Thursday that plans have been finalized to implement the ₦70,000 minimum wage for the remaining workforce categories, including retirees and staff of tertiary institutions.
The state secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ahmed Naibi, discussed the status of wage implementation during an interview with journalists in Lafia.
He said that although the minimum wage and its consequential adjustments had been implemented since December 2025, the living conditions of civil servants in the state have continued to deteriorate due to rising economic hardship.
He said the state government has approved a ₦20,000 minimum wage for retirees, while tertiary institutions will now begin receiving the minimum wage in line with other categories of workers.
Comrade Naibi added that the ₦70,000 minimum wage is already being eroded by inflation and cannot adequately address the current economic realities.
He urged the government to introduce a sustainable welfare package to cushion the impact of the high cost of living on workers.
