The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) says it has strengthened ties with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to safeguard the nation’s voter register from infiltration by foreigners and other ineligible persons.
Chairman of KOSIEC, Mr. Mamman Nda Eri, made this known in Lokoja during a courtesy visit to the State Command of the NIS,Comptroller of Immigration, Mr. Emmanuel Jenewari Tariah, and senior officers of the command.
He said the meeting, which focused on the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), underscored the need to ensure that only qualified Nigerian citizens are enrolled.
According to him, the key resolution reached during the visit was the deployment of immigration officers to designated registration centres to assist in detecting and preventing non-Nigerians from participating in the exercise.
Mr. Eri stressed that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to preserving the sanctity of the voter register, strengthening democratic institutions, and enhancing public confidence in electoral processes.
He commended the NIS for its readiness to work closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other stakeholders to ensure that the CVR exercise remains transparent, credible, and consistent with Nigeria’s electoral laws.
