The Chairman of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC), Barrister Kosmus Akighir, states that the commission will collaborate closely with governors in the region to accelerate development and alleviate poverty.
Akighir stated this in Lafia while leading members of the commission on a courtesy visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State.
He explained that collaboration with governors and other critical stakeholders was key to improving the living standards of people in the region.
“For us to achieve our mandate, we need the support and cooperation of the governors to drive development across the North Central effectively,” Akighir said.
He commended Governor Sule for providing office accommodation for the commission in Nasarawa State, while also appealing for operational support.
“We want to appreciate you for providing us with an office to start. We also need some vehicles to bridge our operational deficiencies because we are still struggling with our budget,” he added.
The NCDC chairman further lauded Sule’s developmental strides, noting that his projects align with the commission’s mandate.
In his response, Governor Sule described the visit as historic, marking the commencement of the commission’s operations. He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring the establishment of the NCDC.
“Let me first thank President Tinubu for his commitment to establishing the NCDC. I also thank my colleague-governors for their collective efforts to ensure a smooth take-off. Though they could not attend this event, I have spoken with each of them and we plan to meet with the commission in Abuja, alongside members of the National Assembly,” Sule said.
The governor emphasized the need for North Central governors to not only support the commission morally but also commit financial resources to strengthen its operations.
