The National Counter Terrorism Centre, Office of the National Security Adviser, has commenced training for first Responders and Bomb Technicians.
The training, which brought together personnel from the Military, Police, Civil Defence, the DSS, among others, is in preparation for the Crisis Response Exercise, Codenamed Rapide Response Two, aimed at equipping the multi-agency actors with knowledge of coordinated responses to complex national security threats.
When declaring the training exercise opened, the National Coordinator, National Counter Terrorism Centre, Major General Adamu Laka, said the training has provided a platform to assess the readiness of participants in counter Improvised Explosive Devices procedures while enhancing technical skills for effective response in counter terrorism crisis settings.
He emphasized that the success of the training will not only ensure the smooth conduct of Exercise Rapid Response Two, but will also strengthen Nigeria’s long-term national security posture.
Major General Adamu Laka said the National Counter Terrorism Centre was focusing this time around on Improvised Explosive Devices IEDs because of their frequent use by terrorists to carry out their attacks and destructions, especially in the north eastern part of the country, hence the need for the training to equip security agents with the requisite knowledge on IEDs production and use by insurgents.
