The Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has identified effective communication as a critical tool in tackling the socio-economic and environmental challenges facing its host communities.
Speaking in Lokoja at the opening of a five-day training on Official Communication Skills in Public Service for over sixty staff members, the Managing Director of the Commission, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, stressed that clear and timely communication within the public service was essential to delivering on N-HYPPADEC’s mandate.
He explained that the Commission was focusing on pressing issues such as flood management, agricultural development, economic self-sufficiency, and youth empowerment, stating that building staff capacity in communication would enhance policy implementation and service delivery.
“Without effective communication, strategies on flood control, agricultural interventions, or youth-focused initiatives may not reach the communities they are meant for. That is why this training is not just a routine exercise, but a necessity,” Yelwa said.
The Director of Finance and Administration, Doctor. Jimoh Haruna Gabi, also noted that the training aligns with the Commission’s policy of continuous staff development.
He asserted that N-HYPPADEC was preparing its workforce for the full migration from analogue to digital staff evaluation reporting, as directed by the Office of the Head of Service, ahead of the December 2025 deadline.
According to him, effective communication skills would not only help staff adapt to digital processes but also strengthen the Commission’s internal efficiency and external engagements with communities.
Some participants, while commending the initiative, pledged to cascade the knowledge gained to colleagues in their respective stations, ensuring that communication gaps do not undermine the Commission’s developmental efforts.
