Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Committee on Youth and Sport, has appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to construct an international Stadium and a befitting Youth Centre in Karu Local Government Area of the State to enhance sports development to attract investors.
Chairman of the Committee, Mr Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, appealed to Karu when he led other Members and the Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Yakubu Kwanta, on an oversight visit to major sporting facilities within the State for upgrade.
The one-day visit took the committee members to Lafia, Akwanga, Keffi, and Karu Local Government Areas to identify sporting facilities that needed urgent intervention by the Government.
Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Youths and Sports Development has commenced inspection of sporting facilities across the State to acquaint itself with their status and know areas that need intervention for necessary action.
The exercise saw the Committee Members alongside the Commissioner in the State Ministry of Youths and Sports, Kwanta Yakubu, with his management Team inspecting facilities at the Abacha Youth Centre, Presidential Lodge, Lafia City Stadium, Akwanga Youth Centre and Sport Academy, Keffi Township Stadium, Youth Centre, and the Karu Local Government Youth Centre.
The Chairman assured Contractor handling the Abacha Youth Centre of their support to finish the renovation work within the time frame.
Chairman, House of Assembly Committee on Youth and Sport, Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, maintained that the Committee desires to see those Sporting infrastructures function well for people to participate actively in sporting activities, saying Karu does not have any State Government facility that has to do with youth and Sport.
The Chairman noted that any legislation towards sport development will be given top priority by the Assembly.
He expressed dismay at the present state of the Sport Academy in Akwanga.
Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Yakubu Kwanta, commended the leadership of the State Assembly for allowing the oversight visit to sporting facilities within the State to be handy on their condition.
He emphasized that the Lafia City Stadium, the Presidential lodge, and the Sports Academy in Akwanga needed urgent renovation to enable athletes to perform better during competition.
In Akwanga Local Government Area, the Committee Chairman summoned the Contractor handling the Akwanga Youths Centre to appear before it to explain why the befitting edifice that engulfed millions of Naira was left unused.
During the visits, the team interfaced with the Chairmen of the various Local Government and the Esu Karu, Pharmacist Luka Panya Baba
