Kwara State Police Command has dismantled a major drug trafficking and kidnapping syndicate, intercepting 127 bags of cannabis concealed under tubers of yam and arresting multiple suspects in a coordinated operation.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command disclosed that the breakthrough was recorded on September 26, 2025, at about 4:00 p.m., following a joint security operation involving the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), and local vigilante groups.
The team intercepted a vehicle along the Babanla–Oreke–Oke-Ode axis, where the illicit substances were discovered hidden beneath a heap of yams.
Two suspects, identified as Dan-Teni Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim, both from Saliku in Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
In a related development, security operatives also apprehended Mohammed Abubakar and Hussain, both of Tsaragi, as well as Tukur Ibrahim, a notorious kidnapper linked to the August 8, 2025, Babanla invasion.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, psc, mnips, commended the synergy among security agencies and pledged that the state would remain unsafe for criminals.
This operation underscores our commitment to proactive policing. Criminal elements will find no hiding place in Kwara State,” the Police Commissioner assured.
The arrests are regarded as one of the biggest drug interceptions in Kwara this year, reinforcing the ongoing crackdown on organized crime and illicit drug trade
