The Nasarawa State Police Command has recorded a major victory in the battle against violent crime, foiling a kidnapping and armed robbery attempt along the ever-busy Keffi–Akwanga highway.
The swift response followed a distress call alerting police that armed bandits had blocked the Federal Highway near Angwan Mayo. Acting immediately, Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, mobilized the Divisional Police Officer of Garaku Division and his men to the scene.
A fierce gun duel ensued, forcing the criminals to retreat into the forest, while police successfully arrested one suspect. Recovered items include firearms, ammunition, and military uniforms believed to have been used to disguise their operations.
The arrested suspect, identified as Aondoaver Thiom from Ise Kiragbe, Kadarko, confessed to being part of a syndicate based in Yelwata (Benue State) and Kadarko (Nasarawa State). The gang had been terrorizing motorists for over two months.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered joint efforts between the Garaku Division and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Lafia to track down the fleeing criminals and restore lasting peace along the highway.
The Police Command assured the public of its total commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the state, while urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence.
