Wives of Local Government Chairman, Administrators, and other political appointees in Nasarawa State have been urged to mobilize women in their communities to register with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
First Lady of Nasarawa State, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, made the call during a one-day sensitization meeting organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services in Lafia, the state capital.
Represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Sheila Tosan Akabe, Hajiya Silifat emphasized the vital role women play in shaping the political future of both the state and the nation.

She encouraged participants to ensure that women, youths, and persons with disabilities in their communities register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, to enable them to elect leaders who are committed to development and good governance.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Humanitarian Services, Hauwa Samuel Jugbo, highlighted that women’s participation in elections is essential for ensuring their voices are reflected in government policies.
She appealed for grassroots campaigns to support newly eligible voters, especially those turning eighteen.
Mr. Ibrahim Onawo, a facilitator and former Director of Voter Education and Publicity at the INEC, stressed the importance of proactive civic engagement by women and youths to boost voter turnout and promote informed electoral choices.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Hajiya Halima Safiyanu Isa, wife of the ALGON Chairman, assured that efforts would be made to promote civic engagement and ensure women are not left behind in the democratic process.
