First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has emphasized the importance of men and women working together to break stereotypes and create opportunities that drive meaningful growth and progress.
The First Lady made this known at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS Kuru, Plateau State, during the inauguration of the Senator Oluremi Gender Centre for Excellence at the Institute.
The idea for the Gender Centre of Excellence was conceived and funded by members of the Senior Executive Course 45, 2023 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies.
The centre, named in honor of the First Lady, was created to promote gender equity, empowerment, and security through evidence-based research, capacity building, and strategic partnerships that mainstream gender perspectives in public policy and governance.
The First Lady, who described women’s empowerment as key to societal progress, noted that the centre’s vision was in line with the federal government’s priority to harness the full potential of all citizens, irrespective of gender, ethnicity, or religion.
She urged potential beneficiaries of the centre to ensure they apply the knowledge they will gain and create a positive impact in society.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang commended the First Lady for positively impacting lives through her office and noted that his administration has actively involved women in governance, with their contributions playing a significant role in the state’s progress.
Board Chairman of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, former Senate President Ken Nnamani, who urged NIPSS to remain committed to developing strategies that will help address the country’s challenges, advocated the running of short courses by the institute in every geopolitical zone.
In an address of welcome, the Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies NIPSS, noted that the legacies of senator Oluremi Tinubu in nation building is an inspiration to Nigerian women and gave an assurance that the institute would continue to serve as a catalysts for inclusive governance where both and men would be empowered to drive the meaningful change in Nigeria and Africa.
