Nigerians have been advised to develop a culture of fire safety to guard against instance of wild and domestic fire.
The Guest Speaker, Mr Evan yakubu Gave the advice at a ceremony to mark the commencement of this year’s fire safety week by the federal fire service plateau state command.

Mr yakubu said fire fighting should not be the exclusive preserve of the fire service but for all citizens
Delivering his address at the event with the theme, building a culture of fire safety across Nigeria, overcoming the not my portion mentality, Mr Yakubu described the topic as apt considering the dry season and the yuletide which witness cases of fire outbreak.
He attributed most cases of fire to carelessness and warned that fire was not a respecter of one’s beliefs
In another presentation, assistant controller of fire Tanfa Bonkat, identified factors that predispose to fire outbreak to include negligence in handling open fire, electrical appliances and improper building plans.

He recommended the inclusion of fire safety principles in school curicullum and adherence to building codes and fire safety standards
Earlier while declaring the fire safety week open, controller of the federal fire service Plateau state command, Ibrahim Ahmed maintained that this year’s theme calls on all to take responsibility and assured of continuous efforts to respond quickly to fire emergencies.

Highlight of the ceremony was a demonstration on how to put out fire outbreak in the home as well as a simulation drill on fire rescue
There were goodwill messages from the representative of the plateau state government and other sister emergency agencies.
