250 persons with disabilities have received 200 thousand Naira each from wife of the plateau state Governor Helen mutfwang.
The donation at an event themed fostering disability – inclusive societies for advancing social progress is courtesy of first lady senator Oluremi Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative economic empowerment programme in commemoration of the 2025 world disability day.
The grant also extended to disabled veterans of the Nigerian army and the police force.
The wife of Plateau State Governor Mrs Helen Mutfwang who said the Nation grows stronger when every person was empowered through inclusivity and opportunities , encouraged the PWDs to never allow societal biase rob them of self reliance and financial freedom.
She hinted that the 200 thousand naira recapitalisation grant aligns with the renewed hope initiative’s passion to promote inclusive growth of every individual especially the PWDs who are often overlooked and underappreciated.
She added the grant will be an annual event to aid the them.

Mrs mutfwang maintained that the office of the first lady was committed to improving lives through agriculture, health and other social investment initiatives aimed at upgrading livelihood of the citizenry.

Chairman plateau state disability commission Dr Lengnen Jurman thanked the RHI and plateau State Governor’s wife who is the state coordinator for the gesture to alleviate the plight of PWDs in the state.
He noted that business grants initially awarded were already changing beneficiaries lives as most of them have established businesses.
He urged the PWDs to register their businesses in government approved licence offices such as the CAC and NAFDAC as it was free for them.
Also Speaking at the event, coordinator of the National human rights commission, kyenpya Mafuyei applauded the strides of government at the federal and state levels in ensuring that the rights of everyone irrespective of status or Creed are protected and reminded that disability rights are human rights .
Some of the beneficiaries Shom Pam and Hannatu Bature said the cash grant would go a long way in expanding their businesses and advised other beneficiaries to channel the grant into good business ventures and not squander them on trivialities.

The world disability day is commemorated every 3rd December with a call for renewed commitment in creating a more just, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world for all.
