The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has reaffirmed the Command’s total ban on the sale, distribution, and use of fireworks, knockouts, bangers, and all forms of pyrotechnics across the state as the Christmas and New Year celebrations draw near.
He emphasized that the ban, which remains fully in effect, was intended to prevent fire outbreaks, injuries, security threats, and other avoidable incidents often linked to the indiscriminate use of fireworks during the festive season.
CP Kankarofi warned that anyone found selling, possessing, or using fireworks in private homes, public areas, markets, or event centers would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.
To ensure full compliance, he noted that the Command would step up patrols, surveillance, and targeted operations across all parts of the state.
He urged residents, traders, community leaders, and event organizers to obey the directive and cooperate with the Police for a safer festive season.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any illegal fireworks-related activities to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency line, 07038329084.
