The Plateau State Government says it has put in motion plans to embrace mechanized farming to boost food production.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang gave the indication during the Ground Breaking Event of the Seed Potato Initiative of the “Time is Now” Administration, held at the Butura Cattle Ranch in Bokkos Local Government Area.

While performing the ground breaking, Governor Caleb Mutfwang lamented the level of the States’ Farmers engagement in peasant farming, a situation he described as hectic, unproductive and unmarketable.
He noted that the government is putting modalities on the ground to ensure that farmers are organized in cooperatives for them to embark on commercial farming through mechanization.

The Governor added that the State government has procured high yield and disease resistant potato seedlings to significantly boost production.
The Governor directed the traditional council in Butara to mediate with the Ardos around the community to safeguard the over 50 thousand hectres of the potatoe farmland from cattle.
Earlier State commissioner for Agriculture, Samson Bugama while appreciating the Governor for his tireless efforts in supporting farming activities, noted that the Ministry has divided the State into various crop zones aimed at taking advantage of all the value chains associated with the different crops.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Naanlong Daniel expressed satisfaction with the level at which the State Government was executing its various projects, stressing that the House will continue to perform its oversight functions with due diligence.
In a remark, the Managing Director of Fruits and Veggies, Steve Bawa commended the State Government for the initiatives, highlighting the numerous benefits to the State.
The event was climaxed with a symbolic cultivation of the piece of land to be used for the production of the Irish potatoes cristined Plateau Potatoes.
