The Kogi State Police Command has deployed adequate personnel and reinforced its presence along the Lokoja–Abuja Highway to ensure public safety, effective traffic control, and the prevention of gridlock and road accidents.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, gave the directive in response to ongoing construction work and road diversions along the highway, which have led to increased vehicular movement and traffic congestion.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP William Aya, the Commissioner personally monitored the operation alongside the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, as both agencies worked collaboratively to ease the movement of commuters.
The statement noted that the proactive deployment was aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow while safeguarding motorists and other road users along the busy corridor.
He said personnel deployed for the operation include officers from the Police Mobile Force, Motor Traffic Section, Safer Highway Patrol Teams, Rapid Response Squad, and other conventional police units.
The CP also said officers have been strategically positioned at critical points, diversion routes, and designated checkpoints to regulate vehicular movement, prevent gridlock, and provide prompt response to traffic or security-related challenges.
CP Kankarofi charged the deployed officers to carry out their duties with professionalism, firmness, and civility, while ensuring strict enforcement of traffic rules and safety measures.
He also urged motorists to remain patient, obey traffic instructions, observe road signs and diversions, and cooperate with law enforcement personnel.
The Kogi State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of lives and property and assured the public of continued proactive measures to maintain safety and order on major highways across the state.
