The Nasarawa State Government has urged all registered miners operating in the state to prioritize Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, initiatives in their host communities to improve livelihoods.
Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Princess Margaret Elayo, made the call in an interview with Radio Nigeria Precious FM correspondent in Lafia, the state capital.
She commended the Executive Director of a private mining company in Uke, Karu Local Government Area, Yakubu Sawadogo, for working in synergy with government and transforming the lives of his host community and surrounding areas.
Princess Elayo challenged other miners across the state to emulate Mr. Sawadogo by providing basic amenities for disadvantaged people, particularly in rural communities. She also stressed the importance of adhering to government policies to prevent environmental degradation.
The Commissioner also appreciated the Yakanaje of Uke, Ahmed Abdullahi Hassan, for maintaining peace in his domain, urging youths to shun crime, support their traditional rulers, and embrace investments in their communities to attract more development.
Speaking on the traditional title recently bestowed on her by the Yakanaje of Uke, Princess Elayo expressed gratitude but noted she preferred to be addressed simply as ‘Princess.’
’I was actually shocked by the title that was given to me. But as a royal daughter, I don’t take titles lightly. I had to consult my parents, seek their consent, and ensure it aligned with the royal home,’ she explained.
Princess Elayo further implored residents of Nasarawa State to support the ministry’s efforts in keeping the environment clean and safe for habitation.
