The Nasarawa State Government has reiterated its commitment to the continuous provision of funds and infrastructure to strengthen health facilities at all levels and improve service delivery across the state.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna, stated this during the presentation of hospital equipment worth millions of naira to the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH), Lafia.
Dr. Gwamna explained that the intervention was aimed at addressing challenges faced by health workers due to the inadequate or non-availability of essential medical equipment, a situation that often compels patients to travel outside the state to access healthcare services.
He noted that in view of the significant progress recorded by the teaching hospital since its establishment, the state government would continue to provide the necessary support to enable the institution effectively discharge its core mandates of service delivery, research, and training.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Lafia, Dr. Hassan Ikrama, described the intervention as a major boost that would further enhance the hospital’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare services to the people.
Dr. Ikrama added that the equipment, particularly the dialysis machines, would significantly ease the hardship faced by patients who previously had to seek such services in neighbouring states.
Items presented to the teaching hospital include three dialysis machines and equipment for the Lafia Infectious Diseases Diagnostic and Research Development Centre.
