The Kogi State Government has ordered the closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state.
The directive, which took effect on Tuesday, was communicated to school owners through the Kogi State Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Pastor Reuben Jimoh.
In a message to members, Jimoh explained that the government had decided to bring forward the mid-term break as part of an emergency lockdown noting that schools are to remain closed until Monday, February 16, 2026.
Meanwhile, The Kogi State Government has clarified that the temporary closure of schools across the state was a preventive measure informed by credible security intelligence and the need to strengthen safety around educational institutions.
Speaking with journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said the decision was taken out of responsibility, not panic, stressing that the government opted for proactive action to avert potential threats.
Fanwo disclosed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed all relevant agencies to immediately put in place necessary security modalities to enable schools resume academic activities as soon as it was considered safe, in order to avoid disruption of the academic calendar.
He commended security agencies for providing timely and actionable intelligence, describing the collaboration as a reflection of the effectiveness of the state’s security architecture.
