One hundred and eighty-four persons have been arrested following a night raid by the Plateau State Taskforce on Human Trafficking at the Old Airport Junction and surrounding areas.
Chairman of the Taskforce and Attorney-General of Plateau state, Mr. Philemon Daffi, disclosed this during a news briefing in Jos.
Mr. Daffi said the operation became necessary to rid the state of criminal elements and to reduce opportunities for human traffickers to thrive.
He revealed that those arrested include three pregnant women, and one person with disability.
The Attorney-General explained that the raid was made possible through rigorous intelligence gathering and strategic data resources by the Taskforce.
He added the Taskforce has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against human trafficking and child exploitation, stressing that perpetrators will be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted, including anyone found patronizing a minor.
Mr. Daffi further said that as part of efforts to sanitize the state and ensure that only legitimate businesses operate, stringent measures would be enforced including sealing and seizing illegal establishments, forfeiture of such businesses, and demolition of affected structures where necessary.
He warned that the state will no longer tolerate relatives or family members who are complicit in trafficking their children or wards, adding that offenders will face the full weight of the law.
The Attorney-General stated that the Taskforce remains committed to achieving its mandate and continually strengthening its operations through experience, specialized training, and advanced infrastructural plans for the rehabilitation of victims.
