The Parish Priest of Archangels Catholic Church, Lokoja, Very Reverend Father Bernard Ologunagba, has called on Nigerians to use the Lenten season as a period of fervent prayer for divine healing and the restoration of peace in the country.
Father Ologunagba made the call while speaking with our correspondent in Lokoja shortly after the Ash Wednesday Mass, which marks the beginning of Lent in the Christian calendar.
He stressed the need for citizens to maintain a positive outlook about the nation despite prevailing challenges, urging them to seek God’s intervention in addressing injustice, corruption, kidnapping, and banditry.
He also encouraged prayers for the transformation of individuals responsible for acts that have brought turmoil to the country.
Speaking on the significance of Ash Wednesday, the cleric explained that it signals the commencement of a forty-day spiritual journey marked by prayer, fasting, abstinence, and almsgiving.
According to him, the season calls for humility, total surrender to God, acknowledgment of personal shortcomings, and reflection on the transient nature of life.
Father Ologunagba further underscored the importance of forgiveness and love for one another during Lent, urging Nigerians to let go of anything that could hinder their spiritual growth and relationship with God.
