Muslims have been urged to strengthen their faith and give out Zakat el Fitr, an act of charity regarded as a means of purifying the fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
The Chief Imam of Ette Community in Kogi Local Government Area, Imam Muhammad Wandana, made the call during his Jumu’ah sermon before the two raka’at prayers.
Imam Wandana explained that Zakat el Fitr is an obligatory duty for every Muslim, male and female, and is given on behalf of family members who are under one’s care, regardless of whether they live nearby or far away.
According to him, Allah has made Zakat el Fitr compulsory for those who observe the fast as a way of providing food for the less privileged in society.
The Chief Imam therefore encouraged Muslims to give out their Zakat el Fitr on the 28th, 29th or 30th day of Ramadan, before the Eid el Fitr prayers, describing it as a compassionate act that helps ease the hardship of the needy.
