About three hundred personnel of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, BSCPGs are being trained at the firing range, Ikpayongo to strengthen their operational guidelines to effectively fight insecurity.
The training is facilitated by the Kukah Centre in collaboration with the Benue State Government and supported by Strengthening Peace Resilience in Nigeria, SPRiNG programme, and Development Office being implemented by Tetra Tech International Development.
Declaring the event open, Deputy Governor, Dr Sam Ode noted that the training was necessary as a deliberate way of preparing ahead of the approval of a State Police by President Bola Tinubu, saying the personnel would be converted to make efficient security in the rural communities.
He noted that Governors as Chief Security Officers of their states should have a police structure they have control over to ensure efficient policing and security, adding that Benue state was already in support of the initiative.
Project Manager, Kukah Centre, Terseer Bamber explained that the project which started in July last year would enable the personnel at the end of the training to understand their mandate to deliver within the confines of the law.
State Commander, BSCPG, Retired Captain Ayuma Ajubi who assured that there would be more training for the personnel said the security outfit is better positioned to know their roles as the first responders in the communities and thanked the Kukah Centre for strengthening the already built personnel.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Internal Affairs, Joseph Har, maintained that Benue is leading on the issue of State Policing in the country as five thousand personnel have already been trained with good manual in the State and commended the kukah Centre for the specialized training.
