Workers in Plateau have called for more reforms that would improve security and welfare as well as favourable working conditions to boost productivity and national growth.
They made the call during activities marking the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, themed “Insecurity and Poverty: The Bane of Decent Work.” which took place at Polo field, Jos.
The workers adorned in their various union attires matched in solidarity and saluted in honour of the Plateau State Governor CALEB MUTFWANG.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress Plateau State Chapter EUGENE MANJI applauded government’s effort to improve the state workers welfare by implementing various reforms.

He however enumerated areas of lack and challenges to include inconclusive agreement on local government workers salary structure, Degree and HND dichotomy in the state civil service and harassments and victimization through arbitrary transfers and redeployment.
The State Chairman, Nigerian Union of Agricultural allied Employees NANNIM ZWALDA who decried the effects of security challenges in the state on food security among other challenges , called on the Federal and state governments to ensure proper operation of the state cargo airport to enable direct export of goods.

Chairman non- academic staff union, Plateau state Council, HYCINTH SWAMYIL agitated for the implementation of the proposed 40% increased pay for their members as against the 30% approved by the government.
Representative of the civil society STEVE ALUKO emphasized the need for reforms in the energy sector which he said if improved on would cause a ripple effect on security and well being.
The state head of Civil Service STEPHEN GADONG who acknowledged some challenges experienced by the workers, encouraged them to keep faith with the executives and ensure productivity.
The Governor of Plateau state CALEB MUTFWANG, represented by the Deputy Governor JOSEPHINE PIYO, appealed for more cooperation despite the daunting challenges.

She assured the workers of improved reforms to enhance welfare packages and cushion economic hardships.
The Occasion was also graced by members of the executive council, state legislators and other members of the public.
