The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FRCN Headquarters Chapel, deeply condole with the Management and staff of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) over the painful and shocking demise of one of the Corporation’s hardworking and dedicated staff, Ms Gwamkat Gwamzhi.
A statement by the Chairman of the Chapel, Daniel Adejo, says Late Gwamkat was an exceptional journalist and a committed professional whose dedication to duty earned her the admiration and respect of colleagues across the Corporation.
The statement describes her untimely death as a huge loss not only to the NUJ but also to the entire FRCN family and the journalism profession as a whole. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of working with her.
Shortly after her transfer from Highland FM, Jos, she was deployed to the Political Unit under the News Directorate, where she distinguished herself through diligence, professionalism and passion for journalism.
Her passion for multimedia journalism and commitment to excellence later earned her redeployment to the New Media Directorate, where she continued to demonstrate uncommon dedication and creativity in the discharge of her responsibilities.
Until her death, Gwamkat was covering the Petroleum Beat for the Corporation, a responsibility she handled with great commitment, courage, and professionalism.
Beyond her professional achievements, Gwamkat was a passionate unionist who believed strongly in the ideals and welfare of journalists. She had earlier served as an executive member of the NUJ in Jos and, upon her transfer to the Headquarters, remained an active, loyal, and committed member of the Union.
She was a cheerful, humble, and easy-going personality who related warmly with colleagues and friends. Her lively nature, friendliness, and positive spirit made her a beloved member of the FRCN family.
The Union prays that Almighty God grants her eternal rest and gives her family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss.
